“Reflecting on my journey since joining the Accounts Payable Association (APA) in March 2023, I can confidently say it has been a game changer for me, my team, and our company.
Prior to discovering the APA through a LinkedIn post, I was actively seeking ways to enhance our Accounts Payable (AP) capabilities and expand my network of AP/P2P professionals. Fast forward 20 months, and I can see how this association has opened doors to invaluable resources and opportunities.
The APA has provided us with essential qualifications in the AP profession, access to a vibrant members portal, webinars, and face-to-face events. It has significantly contributed to our team’s ongoing success and fostered an incredible culture of collaboration and growth.
I’m proud to share that every member of my team has now qualified as either an AP Technician or AP Manager. We prioritise attending events and actively encourage participation in webinars and AP Lives.
On a personal note, my first year with the APA pushed me out of my comfort zone—I had the honour of speaking on a panel to over 400 attendees at the annual conference. This experience, along with various other opportunities, has greatly boosted my confidence and personal development.
I am committed to striving for best practices, nurturing a proud and inclusive team, and connecting with my professional network. Thanks to the APA, these aspirations are now a reality!”
“Since becoming a manager, way back then, I was always on the look out for an association who recognised and supported Accounts Payable teams.
Roll forward a few years and I’m still managing a team and now have the support of the amazing Accounts Payable Association, who provide support, training and collaboration through a network of other like minded AP managers and teams.”
I fell into my career in Accounts Payable, discovering I had a gift with numbers after working for some years in a video rental company. I was invited into the Head Office to start working the books, and have been in AP ever since!
I thrived in the environment, leading to my boss at the time encouraging me to find out more about accreditations so that I could be recognised for my expertise within the wider business. The APA have really supported me and allowed me to present myself as a professional in AP, rather than just another person who can sit in front of a computer and process an invoice.
My first experience of this community was at either the second or third APA Conference, where I turned up, feeling very intimidated and worried, but actually found a group of people who were very knowledgeable, inclusive and open to sharing. They made my first experience very easy, and it has been easy ever since.
I have a great fear of public speaking, but Jamie Radford gave me my first experience of it in front of a smaller crowd, until this year I was in front of the whole Conference on a panel. It has really allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.
I value my Professional Membership with the APA, as it allows me to take the knowledge and expertise I have gathered by being part of the APA, and take this back to the team I run. Over the years I have been able to introduce others to the APA who have since also joined!
